MEET THE FOUNDERS

Steve and Darlene’s first child, Stephen, was born with autism. Seeing an urgent need in the community, Steve became one of the founders of two developmental living centers for children with autism. He was also one of the founders of the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute and served on the board of directors of many charitable institutions including Scottish Rite, which serves children with language disorders.

Steve’s career achievements are immense. Notable highlights include owning and operating businesses including a restaurant, gas stations, jet sales, and real estate management. He established, grew, and sold namesake companies including Beneto Oil Company and Beneto Tank Lines.

Born in Sacramento, Steve lived all of his 83 years in the area. He grew up with a passion for horses and equestrian sports, including rodeo. He served on the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Board of Directors and was inducted into the California State Fair Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2010.
